List of Top Engineering Universities in Germany 2020

This European country is known for its technological advancement and manufacturing giants it has in it. Not only that, it is one of Europe’s most stable economies. Based on Engineering, 25 of the universities in Germany are among the top 500 universities ranked by QS. Here are the top five universities in Germany for engineering students:

1. Technical University of Munich

The Technical University of Munich is a member of TU9, which is a society of most prestigious and largest technical German Institutes. The University is known for its advanced research contribution, and has been ranked 4th as ‘European Most Innovative University’. Established in 1868, it is one of the largest universities in Germany with more than 41000 students enrolled. The University has four campuses in Germany, in Munich, Garching, Straubing, and Weihnstephan. For international students, DAAD scholarships are also available.

2. RWTH Aachen University

RWTH Aachen is another one of large research universities in Germany, with more than 42000 students enrolled in it. The University offers 144 study programs in various departments and therefore considered the largest university in Germany. RWTH is also a member of TU9, DFG and Top Industrial Managers of Europe. RWTH also offers dual degrees and student mobility programs. Every year, on average 7000 international students get enrolled in the RWTH Aachen. For Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the university is considered one of the best in Germany. 3. Technical University of Berlin

Also known as TU Berlin, it was founded in 1879. The university is known for engineering especially, for Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and Management. The Technical University of Berlin, like the top 2 in the list, is also a member of TU9. The new and popular course for the university is Industrial Engineering and Management. 24% of all the enrolled students at the TU Berlin are international, making it one of the top Engineering universities in Germany for the ratio of international students on campus. The main Campus is located in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, the other one is at El Gouna on the Red Sea.

4. KIT, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, abbreviated as KIT, is a public university, which is highly research-oriented. It was founded in 2009 as a result of a merger between the University of Karlsruhe (established in 1825) was merged with Karlsruhe Research Centre (established in 1956). The University is known for its Engineering and natural sciences courses in Europe. In fact, it has been ranked at number one in Germany for Engineering and Natural Sciences Courses. KIT is also a member of TU9. One of the most notable courses available is Computer Science at KIT.

5. Technical University Darmstadt

The Technische Universität Darmstadt, also known as TU Darmstadt, was established in 1877. It was the first one to set up a chair for the Department of Electrical Engineering, and founded its first faculty in 1889. Apart from that, the University is known for its computer science program, computer security, software engineering and cryptography. The University also allows students to exchange between the leading engineering schools of the world. Apart from Engineering, other notable faculties at TU Darmstadt are natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences.
